Board votes to align trustee elections on a biennial cycle, keeping them in May

An attorney advising the board outlined two options created by recent legislation for aligning trustee elections with other local cycles — either the May cycle (aligning with junior colleges such as South Texas College) or the November cycle (aligning with county/state elections). The advisor told trustees the change would extend current terms by default and would result in by‑annual (every other year) elections; he also noted possible savings if the district moves to a biannual cycle. "Everyone on the board would get an extension uh by default with this," the attorney said while explaining the statutory options.
