Skaneateles reports 1 MGD average in April; orders RFP and smoke testing for sewer system

Seth Kieffer, Superintendent of the Village wastewater system, reported to the Municipal Board that average flow for April 2026 was 1 million gallons per day (MGD), with total rainfall of 6.09 inches and 48,000 gallons of sludge hauled to Auburn. Kieffer outlined mechanical issues that require repair and scheduled capital work.

Kieffer told the Board the grit chamber chain is worn and needs replacement, and staff replaced leaking mineral-oil transformers at the West Lake Street pump station. He said the Village is addressing water infiltration on Lakeview Circle’s pump station foundation and will replace seals at the Ramblewood pump station; minor float issues were recorded at the Parkside overflow pump station. Staffing levels improved with Matt Leveroni passing the required lab course.

For capital work the Village will issue an RFP for design services for four pump stations, excluding Gale Road and Ramblewood because they may convert to gravity sewers; the transcript records plans for a smoke test in late July and August to locate storm sewer hookups such as roof leaders and basement floor drains tied to the sanitary sewer. Kieffer also reported the Village hauled 48,000 gallons of sludge to Auburn and that bulk water sales from the DPW building have permanently ceased for health and safety reasons.
