Box Elder County code sets strict standards for flag lots, including stem width, hydrants and occupancy hold
The county code requires Planning Commission approval (or administrative conditional-use review), a minimum stem width of 30 feet, maximum stem length of 250 feet, fire-hydrant planning and no certificate of occupancy until required improvements are installed.

The Box Elder County Land Use and Development Code requires special approval for so-called "flag lots," including minimum and maximum dimensions and infrastructure conditions. The code states: "All flag lots shall be approved as a special provision to the Land Use and Development Code by the Planning Commission," and then lists objective criteria for approval.
