Assessor John Violette told the board that a major factor in this year's lack of assessed growth was that Washington County "dropped the ball on the taxing of large solar farms," allowing a solar project on Route 40 near Hegeman Bridge Road to obtain a tax exemption, the assessor said during the public hearing. Supervisor Shaw added the state recently moved to standardize how solar projects are taxed.
