Residents urge delay, call for transparency on large solar projects in Lee Township

During citizens time, several residents raised concerns about transparency and local impacts of large solar projects proposed for Lee Township.

Carl Gallahue of Lee Township urged the board to delay approval of the county road agreement until residents can confirm that work is completed and funds are tracked. "I hope you commissioners vote it down until we get a thing somehow either the road department keeps track of what they're spending of the $8,000,000... or not get paid the money until they do the work," he said.

Barry Adams, who gave his address as in Marshall, criticized what he called a "phony moratorium" by the Marshall City Council and expressed broader worries about land conversion and public notice for solar developments. Adams said residents feel political apathy because it is difficult to learn what actions officials will take before votes.

Board members and staff responded to questions about public notice and timing during the Maple Run Solar agenda item, and staff repeatedly described the road agreement as focused on road protections and financial mechanisms to limit township exposure. Public commenters' requests to see clear spending oversight and notice procedures were not directly resolved during the meeting.
