Residents press council on wild‑hog damage and developer/HOA problems

Edgewater — Multiple residents urged the council to hold developers and the city accountable for wildlife displacement and housing‑construction problems during the citizens—comment period.

"The hogs didn't wander into our neighborhood, they were displaced directly into it," Laura London told the council, saying clear‑cutting by developers removed habitat and triggered property damage she said cost homeowners thousands of dollars. Tim London told the council that traps removed eight hogs after residents paid a trapper who started work Feb. 17.

Other speakers described management failures at recent Taylor Morrison projects: missing financial audits, large HOA fee increases (one resident said fees rose 43%), warranty problems and deficient construction. Several residents urged the city to require developers to post bonds or escrows or to mandate wildlife mitigation and tree preservation in development agreements.

City staff said they will follow up with residents and that some matters fall to state law and existing permitting; the city manager offered to investigate specific complaints and return with options.

Next steps: Council asked staff to follow up with affected homeowners, consult legal and planning staff about development agreement language that could require wildlife mitigation funding and consider tighter inspection protocols for new developments.
