Chief explains ordinance change to reference current state fire code

Chief Smith presented Ordinance 2026-02, explaining the proposed change to Chapter 10 (Fire Prevention) would stop hard-coding a specific edition of the state fire-protection code and instead reference the current state code so the city's ordinance updates automatically. "If we change this language to this now, it'll bring us into compliance as well as we won't have to change this ordinance ever again, which is automatically adopted," the chief said.
