Commissioners debated whether to immediately authorize a contract with a proposed county attorney or to open the position to competition. County legal counsel (GrayRobinson representative) warned that the county's current contract also ends July 31 and advised caution about a tight transition window. Counsel said, “That timeline is putting you at risk of whether or not you find someone,” and recommended allowing time to transition existing work if the board seeks a different firm.
