Council defeats proposed Residential Fence amendments but approves targeted amendment to code sections
Councilmembers rejected final adoption of Ordinance 1023 after multiple roll calls but later approved an amendment to code sections 18.12.060 B and C. The motion to adopt the ordinance failed 0–7; a subsequent amendment passed 5–2.

Ordinance 1023, which would have amended the city's residential fence regulations, was the subject of extended council discussion Aug. 5. Councilmember Paula Randall moved to have the ordinance read by title only; that motion failed (2 ayes, 4 nays, 1 abstention). Deputy Clerk Deavon Jacobson then read the ordinance verbatim and a motion to approve the ordinance failed on a roll-call vote, recorded as 0 ayes, 7 nays.
