Trustees pause abatement deadlines as repairs continue at 433 W. Madison Street

Village staff reported progress this week on the property at 433 W. Madison Street and the board moved to pause enforcement deadlines while repairs proceed.

Frank Glynn told trustees that Ellis Pifer is continuing to remove personal items from the home, roof repair or replacement is underway, a contractor has been contacted to repair or replace the brick foundation (start date unknown), and eight weeks or more is expected for delivery of custom-ordered windows. Based on that update, Trustee Deb Miller moved to schedule the Building Inspector to help determine appropriate extensions; the motion passed on a voice vote.

Trustee David Saperstein then moved to suspend the voluntary abatement deadlines (the minutes reference a line-item n. deadline of July 5 and a line-item j. deadline of July 15) until the Building Inspector's schedule or contractor timelines are known. Trustee Miller seconded; Trustee Damian Barta abstained and the motion carried. The minutes record the requested extension timeframe as about 20–30 days, but the board directed staff to confirm contractor timelines at the next meeting.

Resident Shawn Kuhse urged flexibility from the board during public comment, saying, "The Village Board needs to be more flexible with Mr. Glynn on abatement deadlines for property located at 433 W. Madison Street as long as improvements are happening." The board did not adopt a new firm deadline at this meeting; Glynn was asked to confirm contractor contact information and a timeline for foundation work by the next meeting.
