County road fleet has multiple mechanical problems; several pieces sent for repairs

Jun 30, 2025

Road staff reported several equipment failures — semi A/C not working, a JCB roller starter that spins without engaging, a 972 loader in Salina for diagnosis, CAT roller derating, and rim breakage on the Rhino mower spindle — and noted ongoing repair work.

The full story

Road Supervisor Mitch Fritz and Assistant Road Supervisor Travis Story briefed the commissioners on a string of equipment problems on June 30. Story reported the county semi had returned from Salina but its air conditioning was still not working; Fritz said the replacement starter in a JCB roller did not resolve a problem because the starter "just spins." Fritz also said a 972 loader was in Salina for diagnosis and repair, Foley Equipment had been on site attempting to fix the CAT roller's derating issue, and the Rhino mower continued to experience rim breakage on the spindle.
