Commissioners proclaim August as Child Support Enforcement Awareness Month

The Carbon County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 20 adopted Proclamation 2026-013 declaring August 2026 Child Support Enforcement Awareness Month in Carbon County.

Carla Berson, identified in the meeting as the county director, presented the county’s child support enforcement report and thanked the board for adopting the proclamation. “Last year, we collected over $6,500,000 to distribute across the Commonwealth to custodial parents and their children,” she said, and reported that year-to-date the office has collected almost $4,000,000 while meeting federal performance measures.

Berson also summarized state-level context included in the proclamation: Pennsylvania ranked first nationally for collection of current and overdue support, and in federal fiscal year 2025 the Commonwealth dispersed nearly $1,100,000,000, according to the proclamation text read at the meeting. She noted internal staffing changes and that Assistant Director Molly Sheridan is a candidate for an award from the Domestic Relations Association of Pennsylvania.

The board voted to adopt the proclamation by motion and second; the clerk read the proclamation into the record and the motion was approved by roll call. The proclamation was adopted to raise awareness of parental responsibilities and the collaborative role of county and state agencies.
