Union County elects Secure Rural Schools payment, allocates funds for roads and federal-land projects
The board authorized Union County to elect Secure Rural Schools (SRS) payments for FY 2026-27 and set Title allocations at 85% for roads and schools, 8% for federal land projects and 7% for wildfire/SAR and broadband activities.

Administrative Officer Shelley Burgess presented Union County's Secure Rural Schools (SRS) election options and recommended allocations for Titles I—6III. Burgess said the estimated SRS payment for FY 2026-27 is $802,203, while the alternative 25% seven-year rolling average payment would be $144,359. She explained Title I (roads and schools) is typically funded at 85%, Title II (special projects on federal lands) at 8%, and Title III (wildfire protection, search-and-rescue, broadband, emergency services) at 7%.
