Commissioners approve asphalt and aggregate quotes for county road maintenance

Union County Public Works Director Doug Wright presented competing quotes for Hot Mix Asphalt Concrete (HMAC) and multiple gravel and shoulder aggregate options, and the Board approved the recommendations in two unanimous votes.

"Director Wright recommends approval for all 4 quotes," Wright told the board after listing bids including JAL/RD Mac (Class C $79.50/ton; Class D $95.00/ton) and Rogers Asphalt (Class C $83.50/ton; Class D $105.00/ton) for asphalt and suppliers for ¾-minus aggregate ranging from $7.00/ton to $19.00/cubic yard. Commissioners said the county will add a $0.45-per-mile mileage fee to supplier prices to account for quarry distance when determining final costs. Commissioner Paul Anderes moved to approve the Hot Mix Asphalt quotes; Commissioner Jake Seavert seconded and the motion carried unanimously.

In a separate motion later in the meeting, the board approved gravel and shoulder aggregate quotes as presented. The adopted procurement approach preserves flexibility to select the lowest total cost when mileage is included. The approvals were handled through standard motions and carried without recorded dissent.
