Buchanan County declared local disasters after two separate storm events in 2026. Emergency Management Director Chris Hare briefed the Board on damage assessments after the April 14 storm and again after significant weather on Aug. 7. On both occasions the Board passed resolutions declaring local disasters and authorized the use of emergency funds, invocation of mutual aid and applying for state assistance.
