License Committee refers Baumgartner Cheese Store premise extension to common council

The License Committee voted to recommend that the common council consider a Class B premise extension for Baumgartner Cheese Store Inc., which would extend the store’s licensed area into a dining room the store is leasing inside the Eugene Hotel.

City staff told the committee they had received documents showing the extension would be consistent with Department of Revenue regulations. "They are able to do that within the Department of Revenue regulations on it," staff said during the presentation.

Tyler, the applicant’s representative, described the physical layout: two cutouts connecting Baumgartner’s to the leased dining room, two steps down into the space and an initial configuration of seven booths. He said there is an internal passage so hotel guests can enter without stepping outside and that the plan is eventually to provide room service for the hotel’s roughly 25 rooms. "25 rooms doesn't really justify building a kitchen to provide room service or anything," Tyler said.

A committee member moved to forward the application to common council; the Chair seconded the motion. The clerk called the roll and recorded three ayes, and the committee voted to move the item to council for final action.

The referral means the common council will consider the premise-extension application at a future meeting; the committee took no final licensing action itself.
