Community ISD board adopts resolution implementing Senate Bill 12

The Community Independent School District Board of Trustees unanimously adopted a resolution directing district staff and contractors to comply with provisions of Senate Bill 12, which "becomes effective on September 1, 2025," the board noted in the resolution and during discussion.

Dr. Knowlton explained the resolution's directives to the board, which include posting parents' access to records on the district website, requiring written parental consent before human sexuality instruction, prohibiting district employees and contractors from assigning or performing diversity, equity and inclusion duties except as required by law, and barring employees from assisting students with social transitioning. The resolution language also instructs the superintendent to provide an internet portal for parental comments and to prioritize public comments at meetings. The motion to adopt the resolution passed with six yea votes and one absence.

The resolution text included several specific procedural directives, such as posting instructional plans and syllabi at the beginning of each semester and providing parents two opportunities for in-person conferences per year. The board's action formalizes the district's approach to SB 12 compliance and directs staff to circulate the resolution electronically and physically to employees and contractors.
