Board signs off on assignment credential authorizations under Education Code

The board reviewed and approved annual assignment credential authorizations required under state education code. Presenters reported that specific teachers meet required semester-unit thresholds or subject-matter competency to teach outside their major or credential, and recommended board approval for those assignments.

The presenter read the names of teachers and coaches covered by the authorization, including Brenda Hoffmeister and Juliana Hargrove at Glendora High School (meeting the 18-semester-unit requirement under Education Code section 44263), and a list of teachers meeting other code thresholds under Education Code section 44256(b). Coaching assignments for Gordon Hamwell and Audra Geary at Glendora High School were also authorized despite lacking PE credentials. The presenter noted Ben Winslow, a history teacher, was authorized to teach one English section under subject-matter competency.

"Under ed code 44263, the following staff meet or exceed the required 18 semester units ... Again, there's no fiscal impact for this item, and we recommend that the board approve this item," the presenter said. Trustees moved, seconded and approved the authorization on a voice vote with no opposition recorded in the transcript.
