Custer County awards Riverside Road bridge replacement to Mainline Contracting for $639,491.25

The Custer County Commission accepted a low bid of $639,491.25 from Mainline Contracting Inc. for the Riverside Road (Buffalo Gap East Main Street) bridge replacement project, Superintendent Doyle said during the bid opening.

Doyle presented bid results and recommended awarding the project to Mainline Contracting, the lowest apparent bidder. Commissioners voted to accept the lowest responsible bid contingent upon approval from the South Dakota Department of Transportation; the motion was made by Commissioner Mark Hartman and seconded by Commissioner Michael Busskohl, and the vote was recorded as "all aye." "The lowest apparent bidder is Mainline Contracting, Inc.," Doyle said during the opening. Construction is planned to begin in late summer and last about two months with detours in place.

The project is being funded by a Betterment/Incentive Grant (BIG); Doyle said the County is responsible for 20% of the construction cost, which he quantified as approximately $127,898.25. The award is contingent on SD DOT review and approval of the bid package and contract.

County officials said the engineer of record and Highway Department staff reviewed the bids before the award. The project was tabled earlier in the meeting pending bid review, then un-tabled and approved after the superintendent confirmed the lowest bidder met bidding requirements. The County will move forward with SD DOT coordination and notify the public about the expected detours prior to construction.
