Prosper Fire & Rescue honored for two life‑saving incidents

The Prosper Town Council recognized members of Prosper Fire & Rescue on Aug. 25 for two separate life‑saving operations and presented unit and individual commendations.

Chief Blassingame detailed the first incident on Aug. 6 when crews responded to a resident in cardiac arrhythmia (V‑tach), administered advanced life support, performed synchronized cardioversion and transported the patient to Baylor where staff achieved a door‑to‑balloon interval of about 48 minutes. "When they did, however, they noticed that he was still in a very serious rhythm and was having a major heart attack," Chief Blassingame said, describing a rapid, coordinated response that staff credited with saving the resident's life.

The council also presented a meritorious unit citation to an engine crew that dove into a pond to rescue a driver who had driven a vehicle into the water and was trapped as the vehicle began to sink. Chief Blassingame said the crew reentered the water to search the submerged vehicle after removing the driver and turned the patient over to medical personnel. "Their courage, decisive action, and willingness to place themselves directly in harm's way resulted in the successful rescue of a citizen," he said.

Members of the Baylor PGA (including President Ryan Gephart) and the Wallace family were invited forward; Gephart said, "I mean, I would say it's an honor to be part of the Prosper Fire Department," while Chief Blassingame read commendations recognizing Battalion Chief Jason Graham and other crew members for professionalism and leadership. The council applauded the department and thanked staff for the rescue efforts and community partnership.

No formal action was required; the recognition was ceremonial.
