Contractor reports steady progress on Charles Town pool and concession project

Sam Rich, the project contact, told the Charles Town Board of Parks and Recreation the demolition and much of the interior masonry and plumbing for the pool and concession renovation are finished and that roof framing and trusses were arriving this week. He said contractors are 'moving forward' and scheduled a public progress walk Monday at 11:00.

Rich said crews discovered unanticipated conditions that slowed work and generated extra cost. 'They sent us a change order for about $20,000' for the additional pool demolition, he said, and staff have received other small change requests relating to restroom door widening and mechanical area repairs. He said the team was able to downsize the electrical service, which will help offset some costs.

Rich said the contractor still projects the facility can open by Memorial Day but warned weather could delay site‑work steps such as pool deck pours. Board members asked for follow‑up on remaining schedule items and for staff to check specific pour and plumbing dates with the contractor. The board did not take formal action on the update; members were invited to the Monday site walk to inspect progress.
