Board hears drainage construction progress; tree removals and sod work scheduled

District Engineer Charlie Krebs told the River Ridge board June 23 that all four drainage improvement sites are under construction: "sites are cleared and silt fences were installed," pipe has been installed in places and fill is being staged at Turnberry.

Krebs said sod installation is most likely the week of July 2 for Turnberry and Palmetto Dunes and pipe installation in Oak Run is expected the week of June 29; if grading is completed the project is expected to be finished by the end of July. He reported that a total of twelve affected trees in Palmetto Dunes will need to be removed and replaced (mostly slash pines and two red maples) and that six Cabbage Palms must be removed and replanted in Oak Run. Staff will monitor results of downspout removal and is keeping a log of additional costs, including a pre-construction environmental review required by the South Florida Water Management District and an instance where a contractor hit an A/C coolant line; Mr. Long contacted the owner and the line was repaired, and those repair costs are expected to come from contingency.

Board members noted crews are working into the evening and on Saturdays. Krebs said he will provide the log of additional costs to be included on the next agenda for the board's review.
