Council approves residential mitigation contract to continue elevation program

The parish council on Aug. 24 approved an agreement with Baroka Benura Engineers and Consultants (BBEC) to manage the residential mitigation program—the parish’s elevation program managed under federal grant rules—at a lump-sum rate of $7,250 per structure. Miss Chasone, presenting the ordinance, said the $7,250 figure is grant‑funded and not a parish general‑fund expense; she said the prior contract had expired and that the firm selected through an RFP process would enable the parish to continue work quickly as additional funding agreements are received.
