A reporter cited a university study that estimated climate costs to Alaska of roughly $340,000,000 to $700,000,000 a year over coming decades and asked what safeguards the EO would preserve to avoid worsening climate impacts. The governor responded by pointing to China's larger carbon footprint and arguing that producing resources in the U.S. lets Americans enforce higher environmental standards; he said, "If you do it here in Alaska, by god, we could possibly enrich some of the people..." and reiterated belief that Alaska will "take care of our environment."
