Ceresco board finalizes preliminary budgets and approves wage ordinance on second reading

The Village of Ceresco Board of Trustees met Aug. 4 for a special budget workshop and moved several preliminary budget decisions ahead of the next meeting. Chair Scott Peterson called the meeting to order at 6:19 PM and the board reviewed each departmental budget, making targeted adjustments and scheduling further checks on insurance and outside services.

Library, fire, police, street, water, sewer, garbage and Keno accounts were all discussed in detail. The board set the police wage budget at $51,550 for a 30-hour work week and agreed to move $25,000 from professional fees into the street capital outlay line. The Keno fund was agreed to be closed out and those funds earmarked for Friendship Park. Total line-item figures discussed included a $53,055 library budget and a $113,050 fire department budget for 2026–27.

During the meeting the board approved Ordinance 2026-6 on its second reading, making changes to wage and part-time pay classifications. "WHEREUPON, Board Member Peterson moved that said Ordinance 2026-6 be approved upon its second reading, with said changes and its title agreed to," the clerk recorded. The motion passed on a roll call vote with Trustees Peterson, Ruble and Burklund voting yea.

The board then entered an executive session for personnel at 9:17 PM and resumed regular session at 10:00 PM, adjourning at 10:01 PM. The ordinance will come back for a third reading at the next board meeting.
