Residents press Sinking Spring council to act on parking on Cacoosing Avenue and speeding on Spring Crest Boulevard

Todd Kline, a resident of 28 Winding Brook Drive, told the Borough Council that parking on Cacoosing Avenue creates safety hazards for neighbors and children and said the borough should consider eliminating parking on one side of the street and painting designated parking lines. Council Vice-President H. David Miller acknowledged the concerns and said the borough would review the situation.

Christine Mazza of 14 Spring Crest Boulevard told council that existing stop signs do not reduce speed on her street and that drivers coming from Penn Avenue and other connections frequently travel near 45 mph. She said the combination of high speeds and planned road construction increases the risk to small children and described drivers passing illegally while she helps her elderly mother enter and exit vehicles. "She stated that existing stop signs are ineffective at reducing speed, with drivers coming from Penn Avenue and other connecting streets frequently traveling at speeds of approximately 45 mph." Miller said the location would be considered for increased surveillance.

The council recorded the public comments but took no immediate enforcement action during the meeting. Staff and councilors indicated the issues would be reviewed for possible traffic enforcement, signage changes or other traffic-calming measures at a future meeting.
