A commissioner proposed a $740,000 intersection-safety initiative that would deploy nine low‑cost mitigations (eg, larger stop signs, pavement markings, flashing beacons and subsurface rumble strips) across up to 50 locations, arguing such investments could prevent injuries and fatalities. He cited one intersection’s crash history: between September 2021 and August 2025 that location had 16 crashes, 14 failure‑to‑yield incidents, eight injuries and two fatalities (dates referenced in the meeting: 10/07/2022 and 08/14/2025). "For less than 1,000,000 dollars, does anybody think we're not gonna save lives this next year?" the commissioner asked.
