Code enforcement reports 109 active cases; staff to pursue vegetation and nuisance-code changes

Code Enforcement Officer Dave Voss gave a quarterly report to the council noting 109 active cases and a 68% closure rate for the quarter. "I have a 109 cases, at that point," he said, and described the case mix: property‑related complaints remain the largest category, with animal and vehicle issues increasing.

Voss emphasized voluntary compliance and outreach and said staff will coordinate with city crews and homeowners to address yard vegetation and alley maintenance to reduce fire hazard. He raised future code topics including vegetation/defensible‑space measures and restrictions on parking boats, RVs and trailers on front lawns or in alleyways because they create safety and access problems for school buses and emergency vehicles.

Council members thanked Voss and asked staff to pursue the next steps, including outreach, potential ordinance language for vegetation and the timing for any code amendments that would come back through the council process.
