Project presenter says Evergreen Elementary construction is on track

The Evergreen Elementary construction team told the Enumclaw School District board the project is progressing "extraordinarily well," with footings poured in most areas and early prefabrication under way.

"The project is moving along extraordinarily well," the presenter said, adding that the 100% DD set has been received and that footings and formwork are in place. The contractor has executed three contract amendments so far — one for the validation phase and two guaranteed maximum price (GMP) packages — and will present GMP 3, which the presenter said will "encompass the entire project budget," at the next board meeting.

Board members asked for design details and scheduling specifics; the presenter said 90% construction documents are scheduled for Oct. 19 with 100% to follow in mid-to-late December, and that framing is likely to start in October. The team reported some early procurement and long-lead purchases are already complete.

Superintendent Dr. Wenzel underscored schedule risk, noting the occupancy target provides little float and that the district and its partners are "pushing on" risk monitoring to ensure the building is ready for staff and students. "With the July 27 occupancy it allows us about three weeks right before everybody arrives," she said, stressing that early commissioning and careful coordination are part of the district’s plan to deliver a turnkey building.

The board was told the team will continue to monitor contingency, buyouts and buyout savings as subcontract pricing is finalized, and to expect additional constructability and value-engineering reports required by OSPI as the progressive design-build process continues.
