Students flag ADA and accessible-parking layout gaps in Monroe central square

The UW–Platteville team reviewed the study area for compliance with the 2010 ADA parking standards and reported several shortfalls. "Lot 11A lacks the standard accessible stalls" and "Lot 15D currently does not have any accessible parking stalls," the team said, and recommended the city add an additional two accessible stalls in Lot 11A and a van‑accessible stall in Lot 15D to meet current standards.

For the Central Square the team found four of six van-accessible stalls had access aisles that encroached into crosswalks or otherwise did not meet the 2010 layout requirements. The presenters recommended removing the small van‑accessible plaques on those four stalls while keeping the primary accessible stall signs in place; they cautioned that modifying accessible infrastructure has legal and user‑experience implications and advised council consultation before making changes.
