Board hears RSP committee's student-experience plan; recommendation due June 8

Burke Jones, the district’s director of operations, and Todd White of consulting firm RSP presented the committee’s progress on strategic-plan elements including early learning, a high-school model, CTE pathways and a student-experience vision. Todd White said community meetings and repeated student interviews shaped the recommendation and emphasized expanding professional experiences such as internships and client-connected projects.

White summarized student feedback and participation, noting strong interest in dual-credit programming and career-focused experiences. He said the committee is presenting a framework, not a finalized budget, and that the committee’s recommendation will be delivered to the board on June 8 for the board to prioritize. “Students can smell fake a mile away,” White said, describing student insistence on authentic, work-based learning.

The presenters highlighted capacity and access issues — scheduling, transportation and time conflicts — as key barriers to scaling CTE experiences. The packet and slides showed dual-credit participation and community input buckets used to form a vision statement; the board will continue prioritization and budget discussions through the coming year with a target of finalizing project funding decisions by June 2027.
