Trustee and superintendent discuss insurance, workshop transparency and district program successes

Board member Jeff (first name only in the transcript) told colleagues that the district workshop often surfaces important information that the public and press miss, citing a "100% increase in our positive referrals for Crossroads High School" and reporting 827 parents participated in a nutrition event.

Superintendent Dr. Hawkins (as addressed in the meeting) responded that staff will provide a more detailed payout report at the December meeting and estimated campus repairs from recent damage could be "somewhere in the neighborhood of $8,000,000," noting a $1,000,000 deductible and that the district is working through TASB on reimbursement.

"I'm guessing, somewhere in the neighborhood of $8,000,000. We have 1,000,000 dollar deductible," Dr. Hawkins said during the exchange. The superintendent said the items are on a slate to be paid for by insurance and staff will try to get a more detailed payout for the December meeting.

Board members also praised nutrition services and the introduction of new healthy lunch boxes at schools; the meeting record shows no formal vote or directive tied to the insurance discussion in the Nov. 18 session.
