Supervisors approve $10,000 amendment for transfer‑station slab engineering

County staff told the board that the Lane Group’s original engineering contract for Transfer Station 4 was $45,500 and that the firm incurred roughly $20,000 in additional engineering costs after discovering unexpected subgrade/soil conditions during work. Staff said no contingency had been built into the contract and requested a $10,000 amendment funded from the reserve for contingencies.

Supervisor McCall moved to approve the $10,000 amendment and authorize the transfer from reserves; the motion was seconded and carried by a seven‑zero vote. County staff and board members discussed whether the engineer had under‑estimated labor and subcontractor time, the policy that professional services under $80,000 can be procured with one quote, and that the reserve balance would remain above $200,000 after the transfer.
