Commissioners flag multiple road repairs and condemn one bridge on AA Rd

County commissioners spent a substantial portion of the meeting on road and bridge needs across the county, identifying specific problem locations and short-term plans.

Commissioner Kurt Ifland listed several trouble spots including a driveway entrance needed on M Rd south of 240 Rd, rough patches and water washing across A Rd that need blading, and holes at the bridge on J Rd north of Hwy 9. Assistant Road Supervisor Travis Story said the pilings on the bridge on AA Rd north of 110 Rd are rotted and the bridge "is not repairable," prompting discussion with contractor Phillip Pennington about installing a low-water crossing at that site. Chair Jim Gwennap asked that V Rd north of 140 Rd be bladed aggressively and that gravel be added; Gwennap also requested a plan for Q Rd south of 50 Rd and Fritz said crews planned to start work that week.

Other operational updates included the county semi returning from Salina to serve as a backup machinery hauler, crews rebuilding the intersection at I Rd and 160 Rd, and an employee pursuing CDL training. Commissioners directed staff to prioritize critical repairs and to develop plans for the condemned AA Rd bridge location.
