Nutter Fort engineering reports Nutter Run finished; Chub Run and Phase II AML projects advance

Town engineering staff told the council that the Nutter Run project is complete but will be placed in service only after samples taken Thursday return acceptable results. The council was informed that Chub Run sewer work is progressing well; project timing is interdependent with the new wastewater treatment plant across the interstate, so the contractor is being granted a time extension to align activations.

Staff also set dates for Phase II of an Abandoned Mine Lands (AML) project designed to drain longstanding mine water by rerouting lines. The pre-bid meeting is scheduled for Aug. 20, 2026 and the bid opening was set for Sept. 8, 2026 (potentially moved to Sept. 10 because of the Labor Day holiday). The AML work will redirect water behind Food Lion and along Buckhannon Pike and will install a new system on the Route 98 side from Alexander Avenue down; staff said existing stormwater piping from Bagwell to the Walgreens outlet has been corroded by acid mine drainage and will be replaced.

Councilors discussed timing and infrastructure impacts; staff emphasized coordination across projects to avoid activating new systems before downstream facilities are ready. No formal vote was required for these project updates, but council approved a contractor time extension administratively to align schedules.
