Committee backs raising expungement threshold to $1,000

House Bill 3184 would increase the maximum-penalty threshold for crimes eligible for expungement from a $500 maximum (or 30 days in jail) to $1,000, expanding the set of offenses that can be expunged; the committee voted to report the bill favorably.

Mr. Weeks reported that H 3184 would amend section 22 59 10 to raise the maximum penalty threshold for crimes eligible for expungement from the current $500 or 30 days in jail to $1,000. "This bill would raise the maximum penalty to $1,000 and, therefore, increase the number of crimes eligible for expungement," Mr. Weeks said. Committee members offered no amendments and the bill received a favorable report by voice vote.
