Council backs VDOT SmartScale application for Route 30/33 with caveats over business access
VDOT presented a conceptual SmartScale application for the Route 30/33 corridor. Council approved a resolution supporting the application while voicing concerns about left-turn restrictions, access to downtown businesses and potential impacts to truck traffic; the County will submit the application on behalf of the Town.

VDOT representatives presented a conceptual plan on July 28 to improve safety and traffic flow at the Route 30 and Route 33 corridor and asked the Town Council to support a SmartScale grant application. Cassandra Lord and Lee McKnight said the concept was developed from traffic analysis, crash data, field observations and public input and remains conceptual pending funding and survey work.
