Board votes to consolidate CCMES into GSES, close CCMES building for school use
Citing declining enrollment and after required legal notices were filed, the Board voted 7‑0 to consolidate Cottonwood/Carson/Minden Elementary School (CCMES) into Genoa School Elementary School (GSES) and not use the CCMES building for educational purposes.

The Douglas County School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved a consolidation of CCMES into GSES on March 12, 2026, and directed that the CCMES facility not be used for educational purposes going forward. Superintendent Frankie Alvarado told trustees that he had been authorized to file required legal notices at the February meeting and that "all of the notices have been filed, we are legally compliant," after which trustees discussed operational authority for staffing, transportation and attendance boundaries.
