Damon ISD approves updated library materials policy

The Damon Independent School District Board voted Oct. 16 to approve proposed revisions to Board Policy EFB (LOCAL) governing instructional resources and library materials.

"Motion was made by Virginia Morris to approve the proposed revisions to Damon ISD Board Policy EFB (LOCAL) as presented," the minutes state. The motion passed 4–0 (Helen Noble, Tracy Eversole, Jason Soileau, Virginia Morris). The revised policy in the packet updates collection‑development goals, public access to online catalogs, parental involvement and formal reconsideration procedures for challenged materials.

The packet language includes explicit steps for informal and formal reconsideration, timelines for a reconsideration committee review, and guidance that a challenged title shall remain available during the review unless a parent specifically requests to restrict access for their child. The revisions also require the District to publish a donor/procurement list 30 days prior to Board action on donated or proposed materials and to provide public access to online catalogs and library policies.

Board members did not record substantive amendments during the meeting; trustees approved the policy as presented in the board packet.
