Council opens multiple condemnation hearings, orders some demolitions and defers others

The council held condemnation hearings for several dilapidated properties in New Iberia, heard building‑official evidence that owners were unresponsive, ordered demolitions in some cases and deferred others to October 28 to perfect service and allow possible owner remediation.

Legal counsel presented a series of resolutions to condemn several structures identified by the parish building official as unsafe or uninhabitable. For one property at 113 Sparrow Street the building official described the structure as "falling down" and said certified notices and newspaper ads produced no response; the council opened the condemnation hearing, received the legal office recommendation to condemn and voted to proceed.
