County seeks better wildfire mapping; USDA grant funds updated plan
County extension and emergency staff said they will update Cape Cod's 2012 community wildfire protection plan using a new USDA $143,000 grant to produce town-specific hazard maps and mitigation priorities, including outreach and fuel-reduction projects.

County extension officials told the Truro audience that wildfire risk on Cape Cod is real and rising due to climate change and changing land-use patterns. "We have been awarded a $143,000 grant from the USDA's Community Defense Wildfire Fire Grant Program to come out with a new plan," said Russ Norton, the county extension educator leading the update.
