Engineer to explore multi-county cost‑share for soil stabilizer after parts and rental issues

County Engineer Jacob Thorius told the Board that Washington County's soil stabilizer has had recent problems for which parts are unavailable and vendors are not offering firm repair pricing or rentals. He said neighboring counties have been renting equipment and that Altorfer Cat has one available for rent and one used unit for sale estimated at six years old. Thorius said approximately six counties have discussed entering a 28E agreement to share ownership and maintenance of a used stabilizer estimated at $193,000 to be split among interested counties; a new stabilizer is estimated at about $500,000.
