Smith County sets 2026 road priorities, asks blade crews to focus on passability
Commissioners asked Road & Bridge staff to identify 3–4 large projects for 2026 and directed blade crews to prioritize making field driveways and dirt roads passable for pickups and trailers, including plans to reshape 4–5 miles of roads.

Commissioner James Gwennap opened the special Road & Bridge session at 7:03 a.m. and asked department staff to identify three to four large projects for 2026, citing priorities north of Highway 36 and other county routes. Gwennap suggested L Road north of Hwy 36; Assistant Road Supervisor Owen Wagner suggested C Road; and Josh Long proposed Y Road. The board asked staff to choose miles ‘‘wisely’’ given utility locate complications and temporary fences that sometimes encroach in roadways.
