Fairgrounds repairs and Bighorn transportation RFPs cleared for next steps

Kimber Solberg, Fairgrounds director, told the board the fair board has an open position and several RFPs will be issued soon for fairground improvements: arena lights, Eaton Barn repairs, the exhibit hall floor (work planned for December 2026) and a grandstand UPS system. Solberg said two additional RFPs (defender pedestals and an ADA platform) remain in development and that sandbag deliveries were expected that day; she also said she will be on vacation Aug. 31–Sept. 11 but reachable by phone.

Separately, commissioners confirmed staff may issue an RFP for a Transportation Alternatives plan for the Bighorn area, enabling the county to pursue pedestrian bridge or crossing grants and other funding. Ken (county engineer, transcript label 14) said staff could hire a consultant to begin the work now and return if costs or firms were unsuitable. Commissioners emphasized starting the RFP process so the county can pursue future grant opportunities.

Chair thanked Solberg and staff for the updates and asked for progress reports as the RFPs are posted and consultants selected.
