Mountainside advances redevelopment plan for municipal pool (first reading)

Mountainside's mayor and council adopted Ordinance 1334-2024 on first reading Sept. 17 to adopt a redevelopment plan for the Mountainside Community Pool (Block 14, Lot 1.03). The ordinance cites a Planning Board investigation that concluded the project area meets the criteria for designation as an "area in need of redevelopment," and that the Planning Board later found the plan not inconsistent with the Borough Master Plan.

The redevelopment plan was prepared by John T. Chadwick, IV, P.P., dated June 7, 2024, and was referred to the Planning Board for review under N.J.S.A. 40A:12A-7(e). The council moved the ordinance for first reading (mover: Councilman Matejek; second: Councilwoman Wass) and set a public hearing for Oct. 15, 2024. If adopted after the hearing, the ordinance will regulate development within the project area under the Local Redevelopment and Housing Law.

Council discussion at the meeting summarized the Planning Board's prior resolution adopting the redevelopment designation and did not include a recorded public objection during first reading. The ordinance text states it will take effect upon final passage and publication as provided by law.
