Senate passes 'Gracie Claire Rushing Act' requiring documentation when organs or specimens are retained after autopsies

Senator Cloud, sponsor of House Bill 12 53, explained the measure would create the Gracie Claire Rushing Act to increase transparency and accountability regarding retained organs and specimens during post-mortem examinations. "This proposed law retains the existing authority for coroners to retain those organs and specimens, but adds a new requirement that any retained organs must be documented in an autopsy report," the sponsor said on the floor.
