Senate passes bill requiring human-trafficking training for public schools
Senate Bill 83 requires city/parish local public school boards and public charter schools to adopt a policy and provide annual training on prevention, identification, reporting and assistance for human-trafficking victims; the sponsor said training would be implemented beginning in the 2026–27 school year and the bill passed on final passage.

Senate Bill 83, carried by Senator Edmonds, passed final passage after a sponsor explanation about how the measure would move responsibility for policy and annual training to local school boards and designated school staff. "Each city parish and other local public school boards and each public school charters is to adopt a policy for human trafficking, victim prevention, identification, reporting and assistance," the sponsor said, and the bill was presented as ready for implementation beginning with the 2026–27 school year.
