Council hears plan for 25th Street sewer relief; design ready for construction

Groves city engineers updated council on a planned relief line to fix a recurring bottleneck in the city's sanitary sewer on 25th Street. The presenter said the project would install a parallel 24‑inch relief pipe for about 2,600 linear feet and tie it into the city's TAF lift station; plans are complete and the project is ready to proceed to construction. "It's about 2,600 linear feet," the presenter said, describing the alignment from Cleveland to the lift station and noting the existing main had been reduced from 30 to 24 inches in past rehab work.

Council members asked whether the new pipe would be open‑cut across a drainage district ditch and how deep it would be. Engineers answered that the relief pipe would be placed off the shoulder, roughly seven feet from the road, would go under the concrete drainage ditch in places, and sit shallower than the existing 16‑foot line (the new pipe about 12 feet deep). Staff said they are coordinating with Drainage District 7 and expect to restore any disturbed ditching after construction. The presentation closed with a staff note that funding comes from the city '26 CO issue.
