Town attorney: state law requires fee study before changing building permit fees; code-enforcement hours flagged

Building Official Rob Peebles recommended discussing the building-fee schedule at the Jan. 29 workshop, and Town Attorney Rob Eschenfelder said state statute requires a consultant-led fee study. Eschenfelder also urged enforcement for unpermitted rebuilding and the commission flagged that the Code Enforcement Officer works only 12 hours per week.

At the Jan. 8 workshop, Building Official Rob Peebles advised the commission to defer changes to the Building Department fee schedule to the Jan. 29 workshop so the issue can be considered with appropriate staff input. Town Attorney Rob Eschenfelder told commissioners that the town cannot change its fee schedule without a study required by state statute and recommended hiring a consultant to perform that analysis.
