Jackson County adopts Ordinance 3-21 to clarify zoning rules

The Jackson County Board of Supervisors adopted Ordinance 3-21, a zoning clarification measure, at its Jan. 13 meeting after unanimous voice votes on expedited readings.

Board Chair Don Swicker opened a public hearing on the ordinance and asked whether the county had received any comments or public submissions. Supervisor Mike Snyder said he had not received substantive feedback and that reviewers had described the revised ordinance as “user friendly and much more clarification than we had previously.” Following the public hearing, the board approved the first reading, voted to suspend Robert’s Rules to allow immediate second and third readings, and approved both subsequent readings; Chair Swicker announced each motion carried.

The board and staff said the ordinance is intended to clarify ambiguities in the county’s prior zoning language, making rules easier for property owners and staff to apply going forward. Supervisors expressed appreciation for staff work on the edits and said they expect the clarifications to guide future zoning decisions.
